Fume Hood Testing

Why should I test my fume hood?

  • A fume hood is the primary safety device in a laboratory to control indoor air quality revents release of hazardous or odorous chemicals into the laboratory which can be toxic to the user of the fume hood as well as other lab occupants

  • Improper operation or use of a fume hood could cause contaminants to enter the building heating and ventilation system and place other non-lab personnel at risk

  • Face velocity can diminish over time, ducts can become corroded, squirrel cages clogged and belts become lose

  • Meet OSAHA Standards and reduce potential liability

Fume Hoods should be tested and re-calibrated annually or bi-annually, depending on the amount of usage and chemicals used, in order to ensure that they function properly and are not a health or safety hazard.
